Human beings have been given very much importance to personal appearance for the last two or three decades. While the popularity of plastic surgery is increased for some time but it has been proved that the origins of plastic surgery are quite old. Physicians in ancient history used skin grafts for reconstructive work.

Sushruta (c. 600 BCE) is considered the “Founding father of surgery”.  He was an ancient Indian physician and surgeon known as India’s “Father of Surgery” and “Father of Plastic Surgery” or “father of brain surgery” for inventing and developing surgical procedures. He reconstructed a nose using a part of the cheek. Rhinoplasty became common in 1000 AD, as noses were severed when punishing an enemy.

Gaspare Tagliacozzi, a 16th Century Italian surgeon is known as “the father of modern plastic surgery.” He became famous throughout Europe for developing a technique to transfer arm tissue to the face, known as a pedicled arm flap.
The first cosmetic rhinoplasty was performed in 1923 and the first liposuction was introduced in the 60s. In 1982, it became more popularized in 1982 by the French plastic surgeon Illouz
Each year cosmetic plastic surgeons improve the lives of millions of patients across the world for many indications and reasons; however, the ultimate outcome is to provide a better cosmetic look to a body or face.
